Who We Are

The Green Afghanistan Agriculture and Livestock Organization (GAALO) is a national, non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organization committed to building resilient and self-reliant Afghan communities. Since its establishment in 2006, GAALO has been delivering innovative, community-centered programs that promote sustainability, equity, and local empowerment.

Our work spans across key development and humanitarian sectors, including rural development, agriculture, livestock support, emergency response, livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, MSME development, nutrition, WASH, education, and climate resilience.

Rooted in local knowledge and guided by global standards, GAALO partners with government institutions, international donors, and local communities to deliver high-impact, scalable, and inclusive solutions across Afghanistan.

Key Projects (Highlights Only)

Over the last five years (2020–2024), GAALO has successfully implemented more than 20 projects, totaling over $2.5 million USD in funding, across more than 20 provinces of Afghanistan. These initiatives have directly benefited tens of thousands of households, focusing on both humanitarian assistance and long-term development.

Thematic Focus Areas Include:

  • Emergency Response & Food Assistance
    Delivered unconditional seasonal support, in-kind and cash-based food assistance to over 50,000 food-insecure households in provinces like Kabul, Khost, Jawzjan, Kapisa, and Parwan, in collaboration with WFP, UNOCHA, and AHF.
  • Agriculture & Livestock Development
    Implemented small-scale livestock and dairy farming programs, benefitting thousands of rural households in Baghlan, Balkh, Nangarhar, and Kabul, supported by IOM.
  • Water Resource & Natural Resource Management
    Conducted participatory watershed management and on-farm water management trainings for over 20,000 farmers, association members, and civil servants in Badakhshan, Samangan, and Balkh, through AECOM/SWIM projects.
  • Livelihoods & Women’s Empowerment
    Promoted women’s economic participation through literacy, poultry farming, and vocational skill-building programs in Badakhshan and other provinces with support from TDH and other partners.
  • Education & Environmental Awareness
    Carried out mobile theater and community engagement campaigns to raise awareness on biodiversity, climate change, and environmental protection in Kabul and beyond, with support from UNDP/UNOPS/GEF-SGP.
  • Research & Capacity Building
    Led impact assessments, baseline studies, and knowledge-building initiatives to support effective program planning and decision-making in provinces such as Takhar, Bamyan, Sari Pul, and Samangan, in partnership with AfghanAid.
